RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization

At Mauno Kaihla Koti, every improvement we make has one goal—to enhance the quality of life, safety, dignity, and well-being of every resident entrusted to our care.

A New Chapter in Excellence at Mauno Kaihla Koti

At Mauno Kaihla Koti, caring has always been at the heart of everything we do.

Every smile, every conversation, and every act of compassion reflects our commitment to providing exceptional care for the people who call our home their own.

Today, we are excited to share an important milestone in that journey.

Mauno Kaihla Koti has been accepted as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) Pre-Designate through the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO). This recognition marks the beginning of a three-year partnership dedicated to strengthening the quality of care we provide through research, innovation, and evidence-based best practices.

Being a BPSO means more than earning a designation—it means making a promise. A promise to continually learn, grow, and ensure that every resident benefits from the latest research and proven approaches to care.

Over the next three years, our team will work closely with RNAO experts to implement Best Practice Guidelines that focus on:

  • People-Centred Care – placing each resident's unique needs, preferences, and voice at the centre of every decision.
  • Transitions in Care – ensuring safe, seamless, and coordinated care during changes in health or care settings.
  • Reducing Injury from Falls – helping residents remain as safe, active, and independent as possible.

Our commitment doesn't stop there.

More than 40 members of our team will become Best Practice Guideline Champions, receiving specialized education to help lead these initiatives throughout our home. Together, we'll measure our progress, share what we learn, and continuously look for new ways to improve the care experience for every resident and family.

As part of this exciting initiative, Mauno Kaihla Koti is also implementing Clinical Pathways within our PointClickCare system. These evidence-based care plans provide clear, consistent guidance for our healthcare team, ensuring residents receive the right care, at the right time, using the latest best practices. Clinical Pathways help improve communication among staff, reduce variations in care, and support better health outcomes while allowing our team to spend more time focused on what matters most—our residents.

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence and our belief that outstanding care is built on compassion, knowledge, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

We are proud to be part of this province-wide network of healthcare organizations dedicated to raising the standard of care across Ontario.

Most importantly, we are proud of what this means for our residents and their families—a safer, stronger, and even more person-centred future.

Together, we are building a healthier tomorrow, one best practice at a time.

Our Newest BPSO Celebrities!

Every great initiative needs a few familiar faces—and it looks like Mauno Kaihla Koti has found ours!

When our new Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) banner arrived, there was plenty of excitement as everyone gathered to see it for the first time. The biggest smiles came from two very special people who quickly realized they had become the "stars" of the display.

Our wonderful resident and our dedicated Unit Clerk couldn't help but laugh as they pointed to their photos proudly featured on the banner. What started as a simple photo opportunity has now become a lasting symbol of what BPSO is all about—people working together to create exceptional, person-centred care.

Their smiling faces now welcome everyone who visits Mauno Kaihla Koti, reminding us that our residents and staff are truly at the heart of everything we do.

Congratulations to our newest BPSO "icons!" We think you wear your new celebrity status very well.

Together, we're building a culture of evidence-based care, continuous learning, and brighter futures for every resident who calls Mauno Kaihla Koti home.

Melissa Healey, Assistant Director of Care at Mauno Kaihla Koti Nursing Home, delivers the opening remarks at the launch of our Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) Pre-Designation with the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) on July 9, celebrating the start of an exciting journey toward excellence in resident care.

Mauno Kaihla Koti is excited to partner with RNAO as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO).

We were honoured to welcome Veronica George, our RNAO Coach, as she helped us celebrate this important milestone and officially launch our commitment to implementing evidence-based best practices that will enrich the lives of our residents for years to come.
